Review on Tecsun Indoor Active Radio Antenna by Louis Loebis

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Works primarily with antennas

This is a nice little receiving antenna. It is very portable, albeit thin. I connected it to the receive antenna port on my Icom IC-7610 transceiver (good thing the antenna comes with a BNC adapter). I couldn't hear the woofers because there aren't any. I didn't hear any HF stations either, probably due to the time of day and the state of the ionosphere. He worked in the band AM (MF). He received weak stations without overloading on strong local stations. I found that it was possible to cancel out the local noise by rotating the loop, but it was difficult to keep the antenna pointing in the right direction. Zero is pretty sharp. The preselector setting function works, but the setting is difficult with the SW. As for noise, I have many sources of noise in my house, so it's hard to say how much the antenna can add. I have to try a household SW portable radio far from the city. The IC-7610 is a direct access software defined radio with superior performance. It doesn't benefit from the pre-selector feature, but most SW consumer radios will. Icom receivers would work fairly well with a short antenna cable, so he had to make up for any imperfections in the antenna. This antenna does not have a power adapter, just battery power, but it will work for most people.
