I had to scratch out the hole for the screw with a large slotted screwdriver so that it could reach the thread below. The brushes get caught in the roller wheels. They are 2.75 inches long, about half of which is plastic that holds the flexible hairs. I don't know if this was the case with the original brushes as they all broke but I don't think so. You can't cut the brushes because there's nothing left. It spins well so I won't know how well it does for a while. If they do their job for at least two months before breaking, it will be average. The original lasted about 6 months.
