Review on SHIMANO PD M540 SPD Pedals Black by Matt Watkins

Great solid pedal set! I've been using these PD-M540's for several years and they don't wear out at all in The Cleat's interaction zone! Only a tiny fraction of The Bronze's color wears off with daily use. They are very easy to maintain if necessary. The spindle/axle itself acts as a race and cylinder with one race on each side, one for the journal bearing ring and one on the cylinder. The other end of the Barrel Race hub contacts a 10mm nut and has a 1.0 thread pitch. followed by a 6mm locknut to secure the race nut and stock tension. A total of 48 3/32 ball bearings are included in the set. 12 races on each side of the barrel that make contact with the spindle and a nut barrel. The cleat adjustment has multiple tension settings on this model!. I replaced the steel bearings with silicon nitride ceramic bearings for a smoother reel with less lubrication. These are great pedals!
