Review on πŸ“Ή Enhanced Recording Experience: RCA DRC8060N DVD Recorder with Commercial Advance by Mark Glass

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Does not live up to expectations

I thought I would like this device just because I looked at its features and specifications, but after carefully reading the entire manual and working with each function, I decided that I would it shouldn't work. Good: HDMI outCommercial AdvanceCommercial Advance 480p, 720p and 1080i Bad: -Frequent freezes, requires momentary shutdown to reset 16 Aspect Ratio :9 AVI/DivX movies always look letterboxed and images are severely distorted even when both Both the DVD recorder and the DVD recorder TV are set to the correct aspect ratios. The only way to get rid of the black bars at the top and bottom is to set the recorder to 480p (degrading picture quality) AND set the TV to the "zoom" setting to get rid of all the black frames. However, this workaround makes the DVD recorder's menus invisible (top, bottom, and sides cropped). I don't have this problem with my other upconverted HDMI DVD players. Mediocre picture quality even with HDMI and 1080i.
