This is an interesting pump. I was searching the market for a whole house booster system for low water pressure in the city. My static PSI is around 30 and drops below 25 during use (measured with the power off). We are on a hill and others have low pressure, so the city recommends installing a higher pressure pump. I was interested in the price of the pump and the lack of an expansion tank. Here are some very important details: - The pump only turns on when it detects a loss of pressure, not the required water flow at the tap. - After the water flow stops, the pump will continue to pressurize the system up to about 80psi. - Any built-in expansion tank AFFECTS the pump sensor and will not work properly. Since I'm using a water heater rather than a tankless water heater, my setup requires a small pressure tank to stabilize the system (as the water in the tank heats up, it expands and pressurizes the system. The tank absorbs the pressure and reduces weight ). At the default pump setting (pressure limiter set at 20psi), the presence of a pressure tank causes the water flow to be reduced to a thin trickle before the pump turns on. My setup includes a pressure reducer before AND after the pump, 25psi and reduced to 50psi. 50psi is more than enough, 70 is too much in my opinion. My lines are split, half feeds cold water and the other half feeds my water tank. Right after the split I have a one-way valve, then a hydraulic tank. This works well enough, turning on the cold water turns the pump on almost immediately, and only turning on the hot water lets the pressure drop quite a bit before turning on, but still lets the pump work. I've found this system to work best with single handle faucets that mix cold and hot water, causing a slight drop in pressure before turning on. Now the pump itself is pretty loud and sounds like it's grinding rocks. I installed it downstairs and can hear it well upstairs. I am planning to close off the utility room with mineral wool and hope this helps. Eventually I could have upgraded to a standard well pump system with a large head tank and pressure switch, but the low cost of this pump was ideal to start with. Please note that you will need very few plumbing parts for a proper installation. Avoid this type of system if you have a water tank.
