I wanted a piece of metal, I got a piece of metal, WOW that thing is strong!

chipset - JMicron JMS583, nothing special. The included cables look neat, so far so good. But the BODY is machined from a HARD BLOCK OF ALUMINUM, and it's apparently thicker than I expected because it feels oddly solid in my hands, like it might actually be steel or something. He tips the scales at 120 grams empty. That's not much if you're a tree, but it's surprisingly heavy for a tiny SSD enclosure. The fit and finish is exquisite, only the threading of the hole leaves something to be desired. (The screws crack a little when they're screwed in, maybe the surface finish disturbed the thread profile or something.) The controller board sits in a milled pocket that's just deep enough to keep the "bottom" of the SSD area perfectly flat. , so if you have a thermal pad under the board, this is a perfect fit. The case cover _includes_ a thermal pad over the board, but I had to add my own at the bottom to make a proper SSD sandwich. There are self-adhesive feet that you can glue on later that will cover the screw holes, which I don't do. I don't care so I didn't install them. The USB-C connector isn't fancy, it's just soldered to the board like any other, and there aren't any gaskets anywhere, so it's not a particularly robust piece of hardware, despite having a cable attached_. But with the cord unplugged, this thing would absolutely survive being run over by a truck or two. Considering it was within the dollar compared to some much cheaper options, I'm absolutely amazed at the quality here. I would buy it again in a heartbeat and in fact I think I might need another one or two now.

Pros
  • Wide Compatibility: Compatible with Windows 7/8/10 and Mac OS, plug and play.
