I ordered this for my husband - he has trouble sleeping + occasional pain and swelling upon waking due to damage to multiple vertebrae and spinal nerves from a fall many years ago. His favorite pillow (found after many attempts) is now in a terrible state, but he refuses to part with it. It is designed to help keep the cervical spine in the correct position. He's been using it for a few days and says it takes a little getting used to, but it seems to be helping. He finds the flat side most comfortable and the firmness just right. It didn't get very hot, which memory foam sometimes does. He loves it so much that he also uses it as a lumbar support when he watches TV in his favorite armchair at night. I didn't notice any bad smell but just in case I left it outside for half a day to release the volatile compounds. The detachable outer shell is thick and soft, and I like that the zipper is very well hidden; The head of the zipper is tucked into an elastic loop, which is a bit tricky to remove but definitely reduces the risk of scratches. It fits into a standard pillowcase (although of course it doesn't fill it and doesn't look like a normal pillow).
