This shock absorber is an updated model for GM Auto Ride Trucks. Last year I installed an earlier AC Delco, #580-451. These air shocks have only been in use for 11 months when I noticed the pump running more frequently. I thought the pump was bad since the shock absorbers were new. Looking under the floor I saw that the rubber boot on both shocks had torn apart and was leaking air. They only had 8,000 miles and had no towing or hard driving. After reading recent shock reports #580-451 it was clear that some people had torn boots and this was a defective product. The shocks were guaranteed for 2 years / 24,000 miles and were sent back to Revain. Thanks Revin I bought a new model 580-1094 which looks different and is also made by BWI. I've attached a photo to show two bad shocks versus new. You can see the new style rubber boot is longer and the metal cover over it is shorter. The reinstallation was successful. A tip: you can remove the plastic shipping plug from the air intake of the new shock and then press the shock to the ground. After squeezing, put the cap back on. It keeps the shock in compression for a few minutes, which makes installing it on a truck a lot easier. Install the top bolt first, then loosen the cap a little to slowly expand the shock enough to insert the bottom bolt. It seems AC Delco/BWI makes the only shock that allows you to keep the Auto Ride (Z55) system going. on your GM truck. Enjoy the new 580-1094 air shock absorbers that will last. My factory shocks could do 86,000 miles without wearing out my wellies and still holding air. I hope AC Delco and BWI got it right this time.
