Review on Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens - Compatible with Canon DSLR Cameras (Lens Only) by Daniel Young Joong H ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I am not disappointed, the quality is satisfying.

I note that this is an EF-S mount with a protruding lens inside the camera - only for cropped carcasses. It makes no sense to buy such a lens "for growth" under a full frame. After 4 years of operation, the diaphragm plume was frayed, the lens began to give an error and take pictures only on an open hole 2.8 I found a replacement cable on ebay. Disassembling the lens is easy, but assembling it (even when recording a disassembly video) is extremely problematic due to the large number of parts and the complex kinematics of their movements relative to each other inside. But I fixed it successfully, the lens continues to delight in rare (now because of the phone) everyday shooting.

Pros
  • Excellent aperture, convenient range of focal lengths for shooting both indoors and portraits. Sharp enough even at 2.8, autofocus motor is fast, image stabilization is also quite good. A workhorse on trips where you can't take too much.
Cons
  • A decent weight of glass, as a retribution for aperture ratio. Almost useless manual focus (focus ring too short). Pretty flimsy plastic construction, large backlashes in the front (although it does not affect the picture). It sucks dust, but without any problems remove the front lens (on three screws from the front end) and clean inside.
