As another reviewer mentioned, having access to the CD drive is very useful so you can use the included diagnostic tool to reconfigure the printer settings. I couldn't find a diagnostic tool online with a quick search. However, I was able to find the driver download very quickly, so no CD drive is needed. This is especially useful if you want to increase print density for higher quality/reliable printouts. If you look at the price of similar products, it is not difficult for me to recommend this one. I found the documentation that came with it to be very adequate and it only took about 5 minutes from unboxing to printing my first label. But beware: labels are not included. I pre-purchased a roll of 4x6 perforated direct thermal labels and it worked great.
