Good First Shop Welder

This is now the only welder I have used, but it has proven to be a fairly reliable welder for beginners. My only complaint is that the ground wire on the terminal side is a bit cheap, but it gets the job done. That with a cheap angle grinder is really all you need for metal work. Now I'm having some trouble getting the bow onto the big bars, especially when working with the extension. I only have 120 power so I have yet to try full power 240. I've found this welder to work better with 3/32 rods than 1/8. I also found the 7018 to be a lot easier to learn than the 6011 as it produces a lot less smoke and a smoother roll. I wouldn't use this for structural work at all, but so far I've used it to reinstall a rusted mower seat, built a mower trailer mount, and did a few other small metal jobs like quick repairs. This comes in very handy, even if the welds are dirty and look bad (mainly due to my poor YouTube welding skills). Without them I'd be stuck with screws and metal plates to fix a few things I've used. for, and it was much easier.

Pros
  • Able to work with E6010 cellulose electrode, ideal for welding rods less than 5/32 inch (4.0 mm) in diameter. Up to 195 A, suitable for welding mild steel, carbon steel, stainless steel and cast iron.
Cons
  • Obsolete model
