So technically this works, but it causes another problem.
Technically it worked - the hair didn't go down the drain. HOWEVER, the center of the siphon is solid and the solid portion is large enough to cover my entire shower drain. This prevents hair from running down the drain and neither does water from the shower. My tub filled up faster than if the drain was clogged with hair. So yes, it was a waste of money.
