Many people have complained that this kettle is now made in China but it seems mainly the 1.2 liter to be version. The 1L version I ordered was made in Japan. If you happen to get the Japanese version, this is a great teapot. The lid is loose but tight enough to prevent water dripping (although filling the kettle to the brim is not recommended) and the boil time is quick. The stainless steel itself has a nice matte texture and is slightly lighter in color but not brittle. Calcium will build up over time, particularly due to hard water, but a light soak/brushing in vinegar will help. Ideal for drinking tea.
