It's really terrible that this product has so many stars. My guess is that they originally sold the "Made in Japan" version to get good reviews and then switched to it once they could survive their reviews. This Chinese version is lighter, not as well finished, prone to rust and other serious problems. Do yourself a favor and avoid this product until they ship the Japanese made version again.

I ordered an electric version of 0.8 l. According to Hario's product page, this kettle is actually made in China and I've noticed that some people say it's worth ordering to see if I have the real one. The inside of the teapot lid I received had an extremely rough texture and a matte grainy appearance that was very different from the polished stainless steel of other Hario teapot lids. The lid was also ferromagnetic, so I strongly suspect it's not stainless steel. The case wasn't magnetic, so…

Many people have complained that this kettle is now made in China but it seems mainly the 1.2 liter to be version. The 1L version I ordered was made in Japan. If you happen to get the Japanese version, this is a great teapot. The lid is loose but tight enough to prevent water dripping (although filling the kettle to the brim is not recommended) and the boil time is quick. Others point out that the 1 liter version is made in Japan. I have a 1.2L and it says 'Made in Japan' on the box. Regardless, the one I have is of very good quality and great for casting - it doesn't get any better than this. It's well made and heats up quickly (using the high BTU burner on my stovetop). I was a little overwhelmed when I received this item. The box it came in had a slight bulge (you can see it in the first photo) as if the product inside was larger than the box actually was. I turned it over and saw the words "Made in China" on the bottom. I double checked the Revain description of this product and it says Made in Japan. I checked the Hario website and they also stated that this kettle is made in Japan. I opened it to inspect the teapot itself, maybe just a box made in China…
