Review on πŸ–₯️ Enhanced Raspberry Computer: Integrated Power Supply Components for Efficient Performance by Mike Johnston

Revainrating 4 out of 5

This works great as a retro gaming console.

I bought my Raspberry Pi 3B last year for the sole purpose of making a retro gaming console. First, I decided that I would build an enclosure for the Pi and an external hard drive. So I went out and bought wood, drills and routers to cut grooves and holes, an extension cord with a switch, a USB hub, and other small accessories. After half assembling a "box" to house the innards of my retro arcade console, I came across this article. I really wish I could be more vigilant and try harder to look before I spend money on all the other things I don't need right now. MEDIAPI+ is exactly what I was looking for. I know it's billed as a Raspberry Pi home media center, but it's actually perfect for making a retro gaming console too. It routes external PI connections to various places around the MEDIAPI+ body and has an internal USB hub so you don't need a separate one (like I originally bought). My external hard drive fit with no problems. The processing quality is very good. I love that it has 2 USB ports on the front so I can connect controllers. It is very well ventilated for heat distribution. It comes with an IR remote but I don't really use it for what I use it for. So if you're looking to create a retro gaming console using Raspberry PI, you've come to the right place. It's a bit pricey for what it is so I gave it 4 stars but it's exactly what I was looking for.

Pros
  • Set top box style case including media remote for in body IR
Cons
  • Requires power outlet
