This is the best all-purpose lock you can buy. Especially if you live in New York. An experienced bike thief is about to steal your bike; any bike if they want, but in terms of locks, it's the closest thing to security. The coloring is immediately recognizable; therefore a little deter any thief with amateur tools. This U-lock must be broken open on both sides of the "U". An end will not "open". The key seems to unlock and lock the device fairly well. Yes, it's heavy and fairly compact, giving it the 'heavy' stigma, but there's no getting around it. Due to the compact U-shaped design, this lock doesn't fit my rear wheel, thick bar (bars are such an X-factor in New York), and seat tube. I improvised by installing a lock around the rim/pillar/seat stays. I don't plan on locking my bike for long periods of time so this lock comes in very handy, but 2 locks/devices requiring 2 different methods for a potential thief is the best choice.
