Review on ๐ŸŒฒ Woodwise 14-pound Powered Wood Filler for Maple, Ash, and Pine by Drew Diaz

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A good wood spatula to have on hand

We bought Woodwise powder to touch up discoloration in softwood. This is obviously a product for professional production or a big project like e.g. B. Floors. The stuff in a small can from a big store dries faster and has a nicer "bounce" to fill holes that are just a pride of sanding, but somehow we always end up with half-empty dry cans. To fill just two or three small areas and then throw the can away, this small can is enough. I like Woodwise litter for its low price, always-on convenience, and good overall performance. So far: โ€ข Dry sanding in less than a few hours when putty is less than 1/8 inch thick โ€ข Excellent adhesion to clean, dry wood โ€ข Excellent sanding and leveling wood imperfections with paint stains โ€ข Great for large, flat putties โ€ข Fair to good for many small nail holes โ€ข Not suitable for deep build-ups, large gaps etc. โ€ข Sandable easier than "Plastic Wood", harder than "Light Putty" โ€ข Good filling without air bubbles โ€ข Works longer than Bondo For large or deep surfaces or something that needs to be prepared quickly for shaping and sanding, I would use Bondo. Obviously, very deep or large defects are best cut and filled with real wood. Personally, I would also prefer Bondo for outdoor use, but this material can stick under a primer there. There were no mixing instructions. I've had better results with peanut butter consistency. The last batch I mixed a few weeks ago is still usable after fitting into a small airtight container. When dry it has the appearance and consistency of fine powdered talc wood mixed with dehydrated PVA glue and a small amount of putty or similar substance - mixing with water is similar. While it's tempting to make this material with your own hands, there's no economic incentive. Besides, who wants to risk their project for an untested mystery goo. To most people, the bag will probably look like one of those things that sat around in your great-grandfather's shed - many years later and still a lot. Haven't used with stains or on wood projects for a clear finish. My projects were completely private. There were no problems with adhesion of the primer or the surface to be painted. There's no one-size-fits-all putty, but it's a solid addition to your fixing and finishing kit.
