Review on πŸš— Dorman 674-549 Exhaust Manifold: An Ideal Fit for Nissan Models by Jared Bradford

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It works and works well

I bought this for my 1997 Nissan Hardbody D21 pickup, the price is right so instead of scouring the junkyards for a crack free original block I went with this one, here are mine Thoughts on that exhaust. Diversity of good and bad. The reason I'm only giving this manifold four stars instead of five is because of a few simple things: The casting is pretty coarse compared to the Japanese block it replaced once it was on the market you might think, Dorman would solve the original problem. The header could crack and maybe add some more binder material between the front and rear exhaust pads. Now my only other issue is that it is made in China. How much more expensive can manufacturing in the US, Japan, South Korea, or Europe cost? I'm tired of supporting people who don't like my country. OK, one final complaint is that the seals are packaged in plain plastic bags, they should be in a different box to protect them from that heavy cast iron manifold during transit so they don't break or worse, bend. OK now article, the manifold was pretty easy to install. I checked with a ruler that the mounting surface was flat and correct. New bolts were included to attach the down tube, and even an O2 sensor adapter with flanged rings and head gasket was supplied to the manifold. The drilled/machined holes for the EGR and O2 pipe were neat and tidy, a personal recommendation for removing your old manifold is to get a suitable EGR pipe removal line wrench or buy a new pipe direct at the gate. I ended up cutting mine off and had to take the pipe off and weld it back on. If I thought about it and had a quality key or new pipe it would be a project of about 1 hour. My other recommendations are to either buy a new oxygen sensor or buy a socket to remove it, a box wrench can pull it off a 12 point wrench, and be sure to coat everything with anti-seize paste during reassembly , so you don't have to deal with that mess all over again when you need to take it apart again.

Pros
  • It's amazing
Cons
  • Some little things
