Well I never thought I would ever need to ask about latex in a metal tool but unfortunately it is not a safe product for people who are allergic to latex! It came with a rubber band wrapped around it, phew. Why would anyone do that when there are twisted connections? And the handle is cork coated, and all of us who are latex allergic know that cork is made by sticking pieces of cork together with latex. Now I see the plug is visible in the gauge, but when I settled on the scoop I thought it was just brown plastic. So yes, a disappointing surprise when I was expecting a plain, secure piece of metal and plastic. But I can't return it because I'm Canadian and could only order from Amazon in the US because a friend crossed the border and was able to bring it to me. There is no way for me to return this stupid thing to the US to ship back. Anyway it was more than I could afford and now I have to buy elsewhere sigh. I hate you Sand Dipper! If you put substances on your product that are lethal to a large proportion of people, make sure this is clearly stated in your advert so no one gets a dangerous surprise!
