My plastic Culligan filter housing under the kitchen sink broke in the middle of the night (leaving three inches of water on the cork floor) so I looked for a METAL water filter housing. I also restore a few Airstreams and wanted the metal filter housing to be used in those applications as well. Many stainless steel filter housing options cost well over a hundred dollars and even go into the six hundred to seven hundred dollar range, which seems pretty ridiculous for a very standard item (10 inch filter housing) made of stainless steel. With mediocre reviews on this particular filter housing, I took a gamble knowing it probably wasn't going to be very user friendly. But actually it was better than I expected. The canister has a recess in the inner bottom, which makes it very difficult to install the filter. If that indentation were a ring, or even just flat like many other plastic filter housings, it would be a lot easier to install the filter. As another reviewer mentioned, the 1/2" NPT threaded inlets and outlets were slightly larger than they should be, so they leaked a little when the case was first installed. The situation is easily rectified by using more Teflon tape than usual, but I can confirm that using more tape *eliminates* the situation. I will be ordering a few more of these for my RV applications. Just have to keep in mind that the inlet/outlet ports require more teflon tape than usual and it takes a bit longer to ensure the filter is properly installed every time the filter is changed (but that only happens once every six months, so I can use that for live a lower price of the item). ps The mount is a bit flimsy (metal is thinner than I would like), but it works.
