I added this to the back of a small 8ft kayak that started out very basic and no frills. I traced the hatch diameter to where I wanted to place the hatch on the kayak. I used a drill to drill a hole in the kayak's hull and then used a small handsaw to cut out a circle that I drew on the kayak. If you have a jigsaw it's quicker, but with a handsaw it was pretty quick. After the hole was cut, I oriented the manhole cover in the direction I wanted the manhole to open, put a gasket around the manhole, and screwed on the outside of the manhole. Then put it in my pocket and it looked great. With the storage hatch installed the kayak looks modernized and now I have space to store small items like keys, wallet, phone etc without worrying about getting wet or stepping on them. . Before adding this hatch, I kept everything in a zippered bag or small dry bag that sat on the bottom of the kayak under my feet.
