Review on πŸ’Ύ Diskless NETGEAR ReadyNAS 102 RN10200-100NAS - 2-Bay Network Attached Storage by Mark Hart

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Hard to beat at this price

It might not be the most advanced NAS firmware on the planet, but considering the price, this is a pretty good device for the average home user who needs files 24/7 Access. Without spending more money I don't think you can beat him. The lack of HD rotation speed is a bummer, as others have said, and the cloud capabilities leave a lot to be desired, but if all you want to do is share this device on your Windows-based home network, it will do the job just fine. 2 Iomega 2TB media servers, one as a primary share and one as a mirrored backup. Both worked fairly well for about a year and a half, but after Lenovo bought them back, the first firmware update I performed made both drives unstable (read/write errors), kept shutting down, and slowed down access times to a bare minimum. I removed the hard drives from both Iomega devices, put them in this Netgear box and voila! Both drives have been connected, initialized, formatted and are now back to air using RAID for mirroring instead of scheduled backup jobs. Time will tell how long the drives last in the long run, but this Netgear box works just fine. Would have given it a 5 star rating but was downgraded to 4 stars due to minimal instructions, lack of turning speed and clumsy cloud setup.

Pros
  • Worth the money
Cons
  • Upgradeable
