The decanter is quite a beauty indeed - simple elegance, but although the neck and neck of the decanter are thick glass, its walls are very thin. I used mine once and hand washed it very carefully because I could see how thin the glass was. After spinning the balls on the floor as instructed and pouring them onto a plate, I carefully place the empty carafe in the empty stainless steel sink to rinse it out. The light tap that accompanied the careful lowering made the glass stopper just pop out of the side of the carafe. The glass stopper came into my possession and it was difficult to pull it out because it crumbled like an eggshell when we touched it. I have many thin glass wine glasses and none of them have ever cracked or cracked due to normal use, being washed in the dishwasher or even being dropped on my hard quartz countertop. I expected this decanter to hold up at least as well as them. Maybe the item I received is defective. I still had the packaging it came in so I sent it back for a full refund. Maybe my experience was just a coincidence and you will be luckier than me. This is a really nice carafe.
