Review on Concrobium Control Household Cleaners Gallon by Barb Parker

Revainrating 5 out of 5

How it works and everything you need to know

Many read the safety data sheet and only see washing soda as an ingredient. You don't need to list anything on the MSDS, just provide instructions on what to do in the event of a spill, how flammable it is in transit, etc. The Safety Data Sheet (SDS) does not oblige you to give out your formula. However, I noticed that they patented it. In the patent you have to say exactly how to do it. So it's a mixture of baking soda, washing soda, TSP detergent (trisodium phosphate) and water. You can make it yourself for about $20 for 160 gallons. However, if you only want a gallon then it's probably better to just buy it and save yourself the hassle. This works because mold doesn't like the sodium or alkaline environment created by the ingredients. Because it's just baking soda, washing soda, and trisodium phosphate with no binder, it's easy to rinse off. If you spray onto something non-porous, like a piece of unpainted wood, the wood will soak it up. For example, if you spray glass, it doesn't penetrate and you can just wipe it off. If you use this on painted walls it will leave a dusty look so you can't use it on dark color. You can spray it, kill the mold and then wipe it off. I don't think you could erase painted walls because they would be too big. You will see that they say that the product needs to dry in order to work. This is because the product is heavily diluted with water (98% water), but after drying has 100% "active ingredients" on the surface that increase the pH and condense salts. I used this on an antique cabinet that smelled of mold. He took care of the smell by about 75%. I think there are nooks and crannies that I don't get to the other 25%. It's really non-toxic and goes away quickly, although it smells like trisodium phosphate. There are no volatile organic compounds as there is no carbon in the mixture. Concronuim is EPA registered, which costs a lot of money. That means they had to prove to the EPA that their product actually worked through lab experiments, which the EPA said they had to do. I would like to thank the creators of Concronuim for developing such a new method of killing mold that is truly safe, and for taking steps with the EPA to back up their claims. While it's just baking soda, washing powder, and TSP, science says mold doesn't like these chemicals. By that I mean don't assume that other products are more effective just because they contain dangerous chemicals that you can't pronounce. I can't find any reason not to use this instead of something else.

Pros
  • all-purpose cleaner
Cons
  • boring packaging
