Ideally use these on tubes that fit together and have no grooves. However, they are also ideal for pipes of the same diameter that are plugged into one another. I didn't need any gasket material, after using these clamps the exhaust doesn't leak completely anymore. In addition, the tie rods are easily accessible from below, while the clamp does not reduce ground clearance. Truly the best way to collect exhaust fumes.
