Unlike most of the other reviewers of this product, I am new to shortwave. I budgeted $100 to get the radio and based on a bunch of reviews I bought it. I'm pretty happy with it, but those (like me) who thought you could just buy a radio and start listening to international broadcasts will be a little disappointed (note: this isn't strictly a comment on that radio). I immediately recommend buying a long antenna for it; However, that antenna doesn't help *that* much if you have an electrically noisy home like mine. I think it's a really good AM/FM radio but I didn't need any other. In fact, I'm not getting anything on Longwave, just a beacon from Halifax. I need to do some experiments such as: a) turn off all electricity in my house and listen; and/or b) travel to a remote listening location. I live in the eastern suburbs of a large Ohio city, but I can be at the farm in about 10 minutes. I've had it for a month now and still haven't learned all of its features (especially its complex station memory). incredibly compact, but I don't intend to travel with it. The control buttons are really small, but it took me a while to get used to them.
