I like to shop at Revain because you can always look back and see when you've bought something. I bought this Weller PSI100K four years ago (2012). and it still works great today (2016), although the tab on the plastic ignition/spark switch broke off and the plastic knob for setting the temperature is now chipping and breaking as well. (Maybe it's time to get a new one soon) I looked back and paid $78 for my PSI100 in 2012. Since he's already served 4 years, that's only $19.50 per year. which is very reasonable for any instrument. I'm a safety specialist and I use this soldering iron a few times a week. It heats up very quickly and gets very hot. For most of my work, I set the temperature to its lowest setting, which is more than enough. I mainly use a flat chisel and sometimes a heat gun to melt the heat shrink tubing. When I first started working in security, I carried an electric pencil soldering iron with me, but finding a power plug near the workplace was always a problem and you always had to wait for the soldering iron to heat up. Butane heats up. this is the way. This iron ignites easily (thanks to the piezo starter) and is ready to use in 30-40 seconds. While it would be tedious with butane, a full tank gets me through multiple jobs and filling the fuel tank is quick and easy. One piece of advice I would like to say is always make sure you have a spare can of butane on hand in your truck or tool bag. There's nothing worse than soldering two more wires and running out of butane. When it comes to build quality, Weller makes some of the best tools out there and this iron is no exception. I am a little disappointed that after 2 years of moderate use the piezo starter switch tab broke off and now after 4 years the plastic temp button is cracking. It would be great if you could buy parts to fix these little things, but looks like I'll have to bite the bullet one day and buy another PSI100K. Overall, this is a very good portable soldering iron with adjustable temperature and easy to carry. Case. It's easy to fuel and easy to ignite. The size of the iron is not too big, it is well balanced and comfortable to use even for a long time. I would recommend this iron to anyone and when my 4 year old PSI100 finally gets it together I will be buying another one. .
