Beware of hidden MacBook problems! And then there is no support

I bought the product to enable Wi-Fi on an Ethernet-enabled device. I have a MacBook. Problem 1: We don't have an Ethernet port on a MacBook. We need an adaptor. Problem 2: As far as I can tell, setup requires a wired connection to the router. (See Technical Support Complaints below.) I can't establish a hard connection to my router. I suspect I need a different adapter if possible since the included ethernet cable doesn't have a USB connector and all connections on my router require USB. This device costs $45. If I understand correctly why the setup faltered, peripheral connections cost you around $100. Maybe more. Everything was going fine during installation until I had to enter a web address, an IP address, which is a private internet protocol address. Site not available. I'm guessing it requires a hard connection to my router, but whatever it is I can't get to where the instructions tell me to. So I'm banned. The device is unusable. Technical support contacted: problem described and asked for help. They sent me instructions from the manual. That's all. The IP address still won't load and it's a complete stumbling block: The blocked page is supposed to allow me to log into my router's admin panel so I can connect the adapter to my network. I am not satisfied with either the product or the technical support. Both are useless - and when you've spent all that money on external ports on a MacBook, it's going to be a very disappointing place.
