I'm not a very demanding photographer, but this lens takes sharp, crisp photos with my old Sony Alpha camera. The large aperture makes it an especially good choice in low light conditions. Some of my children's best photos have been taken with this lens. It's also great when you want to create a bokeh effect because you set the aperture so low. Build quality is solid and I never feel like anything about me suddenly falls apart, despite changing lenses fairly regularly. That said, the 50mm fixed focal length zoom can be a limiting factor, even if it helps you take sharper photos. You will find that in certain situations you have to be quite far away to take photos, which can be very difficult indoors. It's not that hard outdoors, but you'll need to adjust your mindset about shooting when you're used to just zooming in and out. Life is full of compromises, but you could do a lot worse if you're looking for a mid-range prime lens.
