Be sure you can see the nail well, wear glasses if you can't. I was able to cut 4 nails before my cat wondered what the heck I was doing. While telling her it was all right, I wrapped her in a towel and kind of leaned on her lightly to hold her in place then carefully cut the last 4. She'd been declawed before I got her, and only has 4 nails on each of her rear claws. She is very sensitive about what is done to her feet.
