This remote works like an apple tv remote but it took me a while to figure it out. I kept trying to use this remote but my Apple TV just blinked at me. After repeatedly trying to connect this remote by holding down the menu button and any other button, I ended up just restarting the entire TV. So if you can't unplug your old remote, try the following: 1) Use a Micro USB -> USB cable to connect your TV to your computer. 2) Make sure you have connected the power cord. Connecting the micro USB cable to your computer is not enough to connect the set top box to your computer. 3) Open iTunes and click on the small Apple TV box. It's small and hard to see, but for me it was to the right of the Music ^v button. 4) Factory reset your Apple TV. 5) Reconnect your Apple TV to your TV. Your new remote should work right away. NOTE that you will need to re-login to all of your accounts (Hulu, Netflix, etc.). The information sheet that came with the remote control isn't very informative so hopefully it will help someone. will say that the difficulties with the remote probably have more to do with how Apple set up the Apple TV, and the difficulties aren't really this distributor's fault. So it's a good replacement for a more expensive remote, especially if, like me, you just need something to pair your Apple TV with your phone.
