Review on πŸ“Ί BW 4.3 Inch LCD TFT Rearview Monitor Screen: Ideal Car Backup Camera Display" by Aaron Collins

Revainrating 4 out of 5

For the price it really doesn't get any better

I bought this screen with no intention of connecting it to a backup camera, but as a cheap alternative to the small project I had in mind. Before I get into the details, I should probably first clarify a few things and answer a few burning questions you probably have that could be delaying your purchasing decision. 1.) No internal speakers (at least not in the one I have), photo shows volume up and down as top and bottom buttons. These buttons are used to control the on-screen menus such as contrast, brightness, etc. Maybe they can be used to control the audio system, but I haven't tested it yet so I honestly don't know. 2.) There is no real power button on the device. Many reviews say it's DOA, but it's not. This is because it is always in standby mode and turns on when a video signal is received. So you can put your car in reverse and it will turn on automatically (I believe this works by hooking it up to your car's tail light system or reversing sensor system). 3.) It's ***NOT*** High Definition They don't claim it is, but you might be interested anyway. 4.) It ***REALLY*** requires some knowledge of electrical and mechanical skills. It's entirely up to you to figure out and decide how to wire everything. And I mean everything. 5.) The stand is included, but it is a dashboard mount with double tape. It's not a suction cup style like a GPS or similar device. However, here are the pros and cons based on my personal experience and skill level. **** Pros **** 1.) Price of $18 delivered to your door with Prime, you can't beat it. 2.) The picture is really good for what it is. As already mentioned, the image is not high-resolution. Still, for a screen of this size and price, it's reasonably sharp, bright and crisp. 3.) The operating voltage range is very forgiving. You can operate this small screen from 9 volts to 35 volts. The tension is obviously constant. A 9 volt battery works well when new and fully charged. 4.) Standby mode. I like this feature, standby power consumption is tiny so don't worry about battery drain. If that still bothers you, it's not very difficult to hook up a physical switch to the circuit to ensure it's fully off. 5.) Quick response. When I turned on the video source (which was already connected to the device), the screen turned on and was ready to go at full brightness and resolution. No warm up or delay. 6.) The refresh rate is fast enough to watch movies and play video games without quality loss. Of course, because of the size, you have to be close to the screen, but you can comfortably watch movies or play video games. 7.) The matte screen REALLY reduces glare and allows for multi-angle viewing. ****Cons* ***1.) Build quality feels cheap. But it's a cheap product, so that's to be expected. 2.) The cables are a bit short. This wasn't a problem for my purposes, but if you're setting it up as a rear camera screen you'll need an extra cable. 3.) Directions don't help at all. Because they are not included. 4.) It would be nice to have a windshield suction cup. But that's not a big problem 5.) I didn't have a built in fuse on the power cord like the one pictured on Revain. Got one for 80 cents. Again, no big deal. 6.) No internal speaker. That's the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5. I thought increasing and decreasing the volume means it has a built-in speaker, but it doesn't. Well worth it. In summary, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap alternative to anything that requires a small and light screen. It's perfect for experimenting because even if you damage it, you'll only lose $18. And for only $18, you get more than your money's worth. **Update** Screen is now $16.50. An even better deal!
