Review on Strathmore Charcoal White Bound Sheets by Kristen Simpson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great paper, great texture.

This paper is great, its texture creates small "rectangles" in the pattern which does 3 things: (a) The embossed bumps "capture" the material so that the texture better becomes the charcoal etc. on paper, and (b) the indented bulges form small "indentations" in which the pieces of charcoal are retained, allowing the erasure to be gradual (not rising all at once), and most importantly (c) The raised/lowered pattern produces detail with "maximum resolution" so you don't get too lost in the infinitely fine detail. The template also helps keep the image consistent, like an image resized to a maximum resolution on a computer. This helps keep everything "smooth" and prevents you from getting lost in small details, and even large areas tend to look "pixelated" at the same level. I'm attaching a picture of a portrait of a dog showing how the pattern helps create a photo-like look, from a distance it looks like the real thing, and up close you can see the smooth sampling rate created by the pattern is caused. Also, it just looks classy as a canvas. I only use it for special end products, no sketches. I wish they would do a gray textured paper version, but it doesn't matter.
