Review on ๐Ÿšฒ Attwood 11953-4 All-In-One Hoist System: Efficient Kayak, Canoe, and Bike Storage Solution in Sleek Black Finish by Collin Jackson

Good. It could be better.

1. Throw the screws in the trash after you bought the real ones at the hardware store. Two of them broke before they were properly tightened. It will be very difficult to break a bolt of this size! 2. The straps are not adjustable, but you can tie them in a bun to make them look shorter. 3. While buying better bolts, instead of using bent metal to secure the end of the rope, buy a J-hook. Tie a few loops to the taut rope to grab hands to aid in the ascent. The leverage with this system isn't really great, so don't expect to be able to lift the kayak easily if you weigh under 150 pounds, but it can be done. 4. If you have a ceiling height of 8 feet, you can't lift the boat very high at all. Brackets, hooks and loose straps (even when knotted) prevent lifting. Expect the bottom of the SOT kayak to be around 6ft (depending on thickness of course). This setup allowed him to barely clear a storage rack on a Jeep Cherokee (standard suspension) with an 8ft garage ceiling. 5. It would be possible to gain a few more inches by removing the hooks (or turning them upside down and fastening them) to allow the webbing to be attached higher (just below the pulley). 6. The instructions are fine, just read them a few times and look at the parts box and you'll be fine.

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Expensive
