A remarkable device considering the price. Works well.

I have a 14.5ft double kayak. I use this lift to store my kayak on my small patio so the kayak is out of the way. This is a simple device, seems solid enough and works well. The kayak stays securely in place. It will be interesting to see how it performs after prolonged use. It's a very cheap device for everything it is and does. Lifting the kayak is a little tricky as the kayak is heavy and the lift doesn't really provide leverage, but I can do it myself. The only issue I have is that the…

I should have listened to the negative reviews.

Unfortunately I ignored the other negative reviews when ordering 2 of these. As mentioned, screws are cheap and break during assembly, even with pre-drilled holes. The rope frayed right out of the box and the nylon straps are so long that you either have to sew them shorter or buy other straps. The only good thing about it so far is the suspenders. Since you still have to replace the straps/screws/rope, you can save some money and buy all the parts at the hardware store and make them yourself…

I had to watch the video to understand what's supposed to be there.

There are MANY of these hoists. So I ended up just clicking one to get it done. I agree with the statements on the directions. I had to watch the video to figure out that there really should be two strings to pull when all is said and done (first time using a pulley system so maybe I should have known). However, I still can't figure out the locking system. But I wanted to give feedback on the straps that came with it. I wish I could figure out how to add a photo to this review. I mean. INDEED…

What a very bad purchase.

Big fat oh on this one. First problem: I was installing brackets in some very old ceiling joists using a ratchet wrench. Maybe I should have drilled larger pilot holes, but the screw that came with the kit broke in two. I went to my local Ace hardware and bought some better quality screws. Second problem: I'm used to those things with bad instructions, but they top the list of terrible ones. I would never have figured out how to thread rope over pulleys if I hadn't found a video on YouTube…

Good. It could be better.

1. Throw the screws in the trash after you bought the real ones at the hardware store. Two of them broke before they were properly tightened. It will be very difficult to break a bolt of this size! 2. The straps are not adjustable, but you can tie them in a bun to make them look shorter. 3. While buying better bolts, instead of using bent metal to secure the end of the rope, buy a J-hook. Tie a few loops to the taut rope to grab hands to aid in the ascent. The leverage with this system isn't…

A good versatile item that needs customization.

UPDATE: Elevators work very well. Once I had the clearance needed to get the kayaks as close to the ceiling as possible, the elevators became invaluable. Cover 9 feet 6 inches. The bottom of the yaks sits about 7 feet 3 inches when I pull them tight. This gives enough room for a standard garage door to fit under the kayaks. I don't care about harnesses and wouldn't use them even if they didn't let the yaks hang too low. As for the hardware, I always upgrade hardware, especially when it's under…

Great for its price.

I got my kayak off the ground :) Now I can fill my garage with more cave stuff. I used the screws that came with it, no problem. Did I hear a squeak indicating their bolts were broken? I drilled pilot holes and used an impact wrench. I remember installing blinds in my old houses and exercising regularly was an ordeal. I either removed some of the screws or snapped them in or could never get them all the way in because of the corner and it's not the easiest of screws. So I've already learned my…
