Review on ๐Ÿšฒ Attwood 11953-4 All-In-One Hoist System: Efficient Kayak, Canoe, and Bike Storage Solution in Sleek Black Finish by Jason Marquez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A good versatile item that needs customization.

UPDATE: Elevators work very well. Once I had the clearance needed to get the kayaks as close to the ceiling as possible, the elevators became invaluable. Cover 9 feet 6 inches. The bottom of the yaks sits about 7 feet 3 inches when I pull them tight. This gives enough room for a standard garage door to fit under the kayaks. I don't care about harnesses and wouldn't use them even if they didn't let the yaks hang too low. As for the hardware, I always upgrade hardware, especially when it's under load. We ordered two of these to lift our Lifetime Sportfisher kayaks (about 85 pounds). I used 2 x 6 skids running perpendicular to my trusses to set up the lifts. One thing I found helpful was putting the pulleys about a foot down the full length of the boats at each end. If you do this, you'll free up the space you need to easily lock and unlock the locking mechanism. The rope is easily frayed by a locking mechanism. The quality of the rope is the reason for the 4 star rating. I don't use hooks on both ends as this causes the kayak to sit too low in my attachment. I simply used a small piece of string and tied my kayak's molded front handle to the pulley to reduce the distance it would hang down after the pulley was fully up. I think that whatever your application, these are good lifters that rise smoothly when you give yourself the space you need. You may need to make some adjustments, but for a versatile product it does a very good job. Just be careful not to chew on the rope.
