Bought this set thinking of taking it to the tournament in Honolulu on March 19-22 (part of the 2015 Hawaiian Chess Festival). They supply kits, boards and clocks for the tournament. I would use this set in my hotel room as an analysis set to review my games, study openings etc, in my room between rounds etc. For me this is a decent set. I like that the pieces are quite large and magnetic. When I received the set, a magnet and the circular piece of tape holding it (the tape also behaves the same as the felt on a non-magnetic set) came out of the Queen. I installed it again. Note that these magnets are more attractive on one side than the other, and you want the strong side facing the board. This way you can tip the board straight up and the pieces won't fall or slide off. You can use some glue or maybe a hot glue gun with a dab of glue to hold the magnets in place if this problem reoccurs. This combination of equipment and board would not be acceptable in the USCF chess tournament as I feel the board is not big enough. It's also not intended for rapid chess (or blitz, bullets, whatever you want to call it) since rapid chess players tend to capture pieces (not to mention the chess clock!) and I'd be worried about the board. Allocation according to this type of use. Although powerful magnets will actually produce the same effect as a heavily weighted standard tournament set. I think the metal plate itself can be taped to the plastic frame that holds it. This device is suitable for home use and chess club use and our club is not USCF authorized and certainly can be used in our unauthorized tournaments. There are letters and numbers on the board. They help by learning Algerian chess notation. This chess notation allows you to write down the moves in your games and after learning them you can read, use and understand chess books to learn more about this great game. Customize your board and install and beat the games of great players. Learn chess openings, etc. The set is fairly inexpensive. I have better sets, 3-4 sets of wood. But they will cost you more. I wish the magnets were more secure. Factory glue would be nice. I'll see how the tape holds up over time. The board closes securely and locks into place when you close it tightly. The pieces move within the board, just make sure all pieces are lying down. Leave a pawn and it won't close. The parts look good.
