I work in a perfume lab and sometimes bake a cake to go. It comes with a silicone cup to hold the wax tarts and it starts to melt when the lamp is turned on. Once the wax has set, I take out the cake and see that the cup is covered in wax inside and out. It started peeling and was difficult to clean. There is a possibility that my wax is the problem, but I have used different types of wax in making cupcakes, so the cause is wrong. I don't know what could be better but it is what it is. In my bathroom work, wax lamps are made out of clay (like earthenware) and haven't had any problems with it so far.
