The ability to easily share files between different users without having them all cloned into one repository (which would be too much for most people). I like that it's open source so you can customize or extend as necessary in order to fit your own needs! There are probably other VCSs out there which do everything this does just better but they're not Open Source nor Free Software. We use Git instead of Subversion since we host our repositories internally at work; therefore using something more user friendly than CVS/SVN made sense from day 1. Also being able to keep track of changes across multiple revisions makes collaborating easier when working remotely over VPN. Finally - no need to worry about accidentally overwriting someone else's commits if their branch has been updated while yours hasn't yet merged theirs back down onto trunk etc.; git allows us to see who last changed each file.
