Great for kids, foams when dry

Failed to load media. I see this as a product of children's arts and crafts, not a product of fine arts. I have personally worked with various types of air dried clay and I would be very disappointed in this product if I used it on any of my personal projects. As an alternative to many children's playdough/dough/slime products on the market, I think this set is really good and you get a LOT for your money. There are so many flowers! This is good because your child doesn't need to know the color wheel to find the right color. Or, if they mess up a few colors by mixing them without a plan, there are many other colors (lots of greens, browns, pinks, etc.). The tone is VERY soft, almost like foam texture. We could see condensation in some of the pockets before we opened them, and they really are almost "wet" when you first take them out. Each color is sealed in a pouch, but there are plenty of extra plastic zip pouches in the set to store after first opening. These bags are also great for storing projects you haven't finished yet so they don't dry out. Another nice feature is that because of the texture of the clay, you can easily blend the seams with your finger and kind of melt them, creating a smooth, seamless look. The kit comes with a small instruction manual with some fairly basic instructions. The pig in my photos was made by my 9 year old daughter in about 10 minutes. She eventually began searching the internet for other video tutorials for more complex characters. One of the main downsides for me was that unlike pottery or other air drying clays, the clay dries to a soft, foamy texture. This means it can be bent or pinched easily. You can press your fingernail into the design and it will leave a mark. This, in my opinion, affects the durability of the finished structure, as it is prone to damage.

Pros
  • Safe & No-Baking
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
