Review on Delta Cycle Hitch Locking Mount by David Skyline

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The perfect budget DIY car mount!

Last year I installed two of these in the trunk of my Ford Focus (where it was most convenient for me to drill holes in the car). Place the front bike fork in the bracket and use 200# suction cups on the roof for the rear tire or use a ratchet strap around the roof and cab to hold the rear tire in place. It can look a bit odd when not in use, but when there are two mounts they are symmetrical and not out of place. Do you want to store your bikes safely? Just add your bike's lock that you use to lock it. I can probably put two bikes on top of my car in three to four minutes if I'm moving fast, it's a quick and easy setup. My rack is always ready to use. It's cheaper than anything a bike shop can offer in terms of roof rack mounts. Note. You want the front tire to come off without tools and without too many braking issues. Most quality bikes have quick-release tires and a brake mechanism that allows the tire to be easily released. Others say the rear end can be unscrewed, meaning it's not a secure locking mechanism. Not true! When your bike is locked there is so much pressure on that nut that even if a thief had the perfect wrench, I'm pretty sure the nut would loosen before you could move that nut. Of course, this is not something that can be unscrewed manually. If someone wants to steal your stuff, they'll find a way, but it's as secure as any quality bike lock. some kind of cheat bar or wrench to equalize). It can be very tiring to tightly close and open the mount after a full day on the bike.

Pros
  • Lockable Bike Fork Post :: The quick release bracket features a patented eccentric lever design that allows any standard 9x100mm dropout to be padlocked for added security when transporting or storing your bike.
Cons
  • Will be added later
