Purchased for 2008 Lexus RX 350. The tailgate opens almost fully, then beeps and it closes automatically. If I had manually slid the tailgate to the fully open position when it was almost at the top, the tailgate stayed open. Lubricating the legs didn't help so I bought these replacement lifting legs. I replaced one side, then the other side and had help hold the tailgate during the replacement process. This helped because it was easier to first connect the spare lift brace to the lower ball joint and then have the person holding the tailgate adjust the height of the tailgate while I leveled the upper joint. I used a flathead screwdriver to pry up one side of the locking clip, just enough to pry the lifter off the ball joint; first on the top connector, then on the bottom connector. Then repeat the process to install the replacement by lifting one side of the retaining clip just enough to slide the lifter onto the lower ball joint, then snapping the retaining clip into place and repeating the process on the upper joint. Overall easy installation, tailgate now opens automatically and stays open.
