Review on Oster Cordless Electric Bottle Opener by Alex Montgomery

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Useless for so many jams

I gave this product 1 star over zero for two reasons: First, as far as I can tell, Revain doesn't support zero ratings. Second, sometimes it works. If it works, it's very good. Problems with synthetic corks, plastic corks, old or brittle corks, non-standard bottle neck shapes, etc. That means most jams are likely to be encountered. I have used this product for several cellar vintages. These bottles had a natural cork but were 10 or more years old. He chewed on the cork but didn't remove it. I tried it on some medium mass produced wines and it worked well with size 1 natural corks: any other size or material could not be removed. More and more manufacturers are moving away from traditional cork for various reasons. There are only a few bottles left for Auster to open. On the last page of the insert they admit it. (see fig.). Nice idea, but it doesn't work well enough to justify the space it takes up on the counter.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
