Inexpensive way to get watercolor pencils

I love my artists' watercolor pencils, but a large set of pencils from any brand would cost over $140, so I decided to look for a cheaper alternative. Norberg & Linden's LG74 watercolor pencil set caught my eye because it costs less than $25 for 72 pens that seemed to have a good variety of colors. strong, the lid closes with a magnet, shiny and beautiful. It came with a sharpener which, while I wasn't expecting much, actually worked well. None of the pencils came with broken tips, none broke while I was using them. By the way, I didn't find any scratching sticks. Each pencil has a dangling end that shows the color and they're pretty accurate, but I usually check the dots. I was very pleased to see the easy to read color names on the hexagonal stems which I prefer as they don't roll off when you put on a pair. This set has a wide range of colors including more earthy tones than many sets, which comes in handy if you are painting or painting landscapes, tree bark, brown hair or animals. I was glad to see her. There's also a lot of blue, red, yellow, and green, so I was able to draw some flowers, plants, and a cartoonish seascape. I'm really surprised that what you draw with these pens dissolves with a few wet brush strokes. , unlike my previous cheaper kits which still left some lines. This set puts you in control so you can just use them like crayons, use them like watercolors, or draw and partially dissolve the lines to create a beautiful effect. If you were hoping for super soft pens like Prismacolor Premiers, you were out of luck. These pencils aren't as hard, but they are closer to oil-based colored pencils than wax-based ones. On the other hand, unlike my Durers, they don't stick to paper. Oh yeah, and a little notebook made out of cold-pressed watercolor paper isn't bad at all either. I prefer some cold press tooth if my pencils are not very soft. The only real downside is one you may be familiar with. As with many cheaper colored pencil sets, upon opening the box the odor was very strong and gave me a headache. According to the owner of another art company, that's the smell of not quite cured varnish that each pencil is used to write with. I've found that opening the box in a ventilated area and separating the pen trays helps get rid of the smell after a few days. I have one more comment about Norberg & Linden. I had a question about pencils before I ordered them. The company representative responded quickly and politely, contacted me at the manufacturer and answered my question, which by the way was whether there are animal products in paper or pens. Your answer is no. Thanks to them for the quick replies as it's always nice to know what's in my art supplies. I am happy with my purchase. These watercolor pencils dissolve in water or partially dissolve with just a light stroke or two of a wet brush. The pair were a bit flimsy, but most pens applied a decent amount of color, and while I wish they were softer, it's personal preference - I didn't have to press as hard to get the color out of them. At only 30.5 cents per pencil, they cost 1/6th to 1/12th what I pay for an artist's pencil and they do the job well. If you are on a budget or just want to learn how to draw and paint with watercolor pencils I would say this is a good set.

Pros
  • Organize your creative space. The box and removable compartments make storing and organizing your watercolor pencil set a breeze. You don't have to worry about losing your pens!
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for older people

Worked well on a shinny smooth surface even though it wasn't supposed to.
