I bought this because the sample bag was only $1.99 and I thought I might lose, so worth a try. I had hamsters at different times, and then there was no such concept. Anyway, potty training for us went like this: - His first reaction was to bite the litter as he wasn't sure what it was. - On the first and second day the hamster rode in it like in a sand bath. - Day 3 he started peeing on the potty - Day 4 and beyond: He continued to urinate only in the potty and poops on everyone else in the cage. - After 3 weeks he is now pissing and pooping in the potty. Still pooping around the cage at random, but not as often as before. Conclusion: I love it and the hamster cage becomes cleaner. The cage does not smell of urine as all the urine is in the bowl. Wonderful. Every day we simply scoop the urine balls out of the litter and put new litter on top. It's like cleaning a litter box, only tiny. LOLIf you're thinking of buying one, be sure to try it. Give the hamster a few days and it should work. Place it in the area of the cage where your hamster pees, as all hamsters have places to pee.
