I wanted real driftwood to try and lower the pH a bit and bring some real wood into the aquarium. Based on other reviews some things are clear. First, you don't know what you have until it arrives. If you have a small aquarium, this is a problem. Slightly larger tanks can improve things. I have a small piece and it's quite large. People have also complained about the coloring of the water. I boiled my two hours and the water was almost black. I then left it in cold water for almost 2 weeks, changing it from time to time. The water in the bucket definitely went dark, as did the water in the aquarium for a while. I have a small carbon bag in my filter and the water in the tank is not colored at all. There is an argument that I am removing tannins and that is what the PH is hoping for, but the PH on testing is slightly lower than my other tank which was all I wanted. This alone will not sink to the low numbers required by some fish. It just brings it a little closer to the 7 range. I expect the "lint" to grow anytime, but I'm not worried about that because it's normal. I didn't see it in the bucket. Adding at least one piece of natural driftwood to the aquarium is a great option. It comes from a reliable company and is very beautiful. I'm glad I have it in my tank and it adds something natural that the fish love.
