Review on Efficient SCA-302 180 Gallon Protein Skimmer: Upgrade Your Sump with the Newest Version by SC Aquariums by Carolina Whipple

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good skimmer for the price but not worth 180 gallons.

Made from a large dollar skimmer (Super Reef Octopus) in my 180 gallon aquarium, this thing looks like a toy magician. There is no way it can be rated at 180 gallons. But for 100th it is quite possible. He is currently working on a 66 gallon reef with 30 gallons of water in the sump. after a few days of running it really starts to pull the dirt out of the water. Mud builds up in my throat, as was the case with my SRO. I'm still working on turning this into a dark brown skimmate. I've owned it for about 2 weeks. There will be a few microbubbles coming out of the outlet, but if it's behind the bubble trap you should be fine. The instructions are very sub-par, but it is easy to assemble and very quiet. I made an air intake muffler out of an old pill bottle. The reason it didn't get all 5 stars was because of the cup size. It could have been a little larger to fit a little more skimmat and the assembly instructions could have been a little better. I was asked about this skimmer on a reef forum and thought I'd update this review. This skimmer still works great and I love it after 3 months. I have to clean it weekly because it leaves a nice thick dark residue. keeps my nitrates zero and phosphates under control. Do not be shy.
