I've used a few pepper mills and they are all very unstable and heavy from the batteries so they tip over and break very easily. These have even battery weight distribution and a large base so they don't tip over or break, which is a godsend so I don't have to constantly replace broken windmills. These grinders are not pre-filled with salt and pepper. So you can use both pepper and salt or leave a substitute as I like to do. You need 6 AAA batteries, which may seem like a lot, but in my experience the batteries usually last at least a year, so I'll agree 12 for two. The salt or pepper container is huge! That's three times if not more than other brands I've used which means no more refills hooray! I left one and used the pepper in the other as I don't actually use salt in my coffee grinder.
