Perfectly Fixed Kenmore Elite Smartheat QuietPak 9 Gas Dryer

Received 2 packs. The build quality looks good from the outside. One of the relays has 5 pins, the other has 4. Trust me, they are electrically identical. I used a 4 pin relay to replace a blown relay in my dryer (see model name). Worked and works a month later. You will need soldering skills for this replacement. Check out some videos on YouTube. Tips from one newbie to another on soldering/desoldering: - If you don't already have a decent soldering station, invest and buy one for $40. With this package you save anyway, so invest some of the savings in a good soldering station. Be sure to purchase a flux and demolition pump. And solder with tin! wait till he comes In the meantime, admire your new relay :-) Desoldering, removing a damaged relay :- If this is your first time, fish out the damaged electronics and practice TO desoldering and soldering. You don't want to damage the control board - that's $300. The hardest part of this project is desoldering and removing the old relay. It is best for beginners to work in pairs: One pulls the relay on one side, the other desolders. If the other person is a significant other, be polite and KEEP CALM or you'll be in much bigger trouble than a dryer that doesn't work. in tin to desolder. I tried a dremel and nearly damaged the board. Use a knife, dremel, whatever. Just be REALLY CAREFUL that your scraper doesn't run onto other parts of the board. If you exposed another part of the pattern, use nail polish (yes) to recoat it. This is a high current circuit and probably high humidity, and you don't want the copper exposed - it will rust. There is a natural tendency to leave the iron plugged in until you can unplug the old relay. NOT. Do not heat the terminal for more than a few seconds or you will fry other components. Allow enough time for the board to cool down between attempts. If you have a wick or vacuum tube to suck up the can when desoldering, do that first. a bit rather than trying to fully unblock one terminal at a time. Do what works for you, just don't leave the iron on the terminal for too long. Soldering: - After desoldering, it's very easy. There's not much advice here other than not leaving the iron on for too long. - Nail polish to coat the glass when you're done. Installation and Testing: - Don't try Murphy to install and shut down everything before you've checked it out. Connect the wires to the board, making sure the underside of the board is electrically insulated, and place it in a stable location on the dryer. Make sure it is NOT sitting on the reel where it will spin when it folds! Much luck!
