Review on Dorman 902025 A C Port Cap by Choice Maynard

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This is a BIG $5 Dorman fix to a stupid GM design bug

This is a BIG $5 Dorman fix to a stupid GM design bug. At one point GM redesigned the gasket for the AC service port on the high pressure side. Trouble is, the service port's rubber seal fails before any other part of the system. This means the air conditioning in our Tahoe was not cooling properly due to a refrigerant leak in the system. This service port seal is out of service. It has never been used. No work has ever been done on the air conditioning, no hoses/gauges have ever been connected or needed. When a service port fails, it's like a tool that breaks before you use it. I had to top up a can of R134 through the low pressure service port a few times per season before I found out. a small bottle at the neck above the connector, when it inflates, the refrigerant leaks out. This brass plug from Dorman threads into an aluminum service port (rather than a plastic cap) and provides a tight seal. I put a small amount of silicone grease on the connector to help it seat, but that was me. The bottle test showed no leaks with the stopper in place. And the connector is detachable when system maintenance is required.

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Mostly good, but...
